FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cataract is the name given to the loss of transparency of the intraocular lens. The loss of transparency of the intraocular lens can cause decreased visual acuity, contrast loss, color perception changes, night vision disorders, sensitivity to light or rapid eyeglass prescription changes.

Cataract is diagnosed during a routine eye examination. Cataract treatment is only possible with surgery.

The type intraocular of lens is decided according to the person’s general eye structure, general health status and visual requirements. If a choice is not made according to these criteria, undesirable results may be encountered regardless of the type of intraocular lens.

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and can cause permanent vision loss. In glaucoma intraocular eye pressure is not always high. Glaucoma (eye tension) can develop even when eye pressure is at normal levels.

Glaucoma can be seen at any age. The risk of glaucoma increases after the age of 40.

Glaucoma is an insidious and progressive eye disease. In glaucoma patients, the damage to the optic nerve may not cause any complaints unless it reaches a certain level.

There is a genetic predisposition to glaucoma. People with glaucoma in their family are more prone to glaucoma.

A fluid called aqueous humor is constantly produced in the eye and excreted. When the balance between production and outflow is disrupted, eye pressure increases.

The basis of glaucoma treatment is early diagnosis and compliance with treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent permanent vision loss. If diagnosis and treatment are delayed, it is not possible to repair the damaged optic nerve or restore the lost field of vision.

Patients do not feel any pain during laser surgery. While there is no significant pain after surgery in LASIK and SMILE surgery, there are stinging and burning complaints that last for 24 hours in PRK surgery.

When performed on the appropriate patient, the results of laser surgery are permanent. It is extremely important for the permanence of the results of laser surgery that the patient should be over the age of 18, there should be no change in the eyeglass prescription in the last 6 months.

An eye examination is recommended in the first month after normal birth or cesarean section, when the baby is born healthy. A re-examination is recommended between 6-12 months for children without any ocular disease. Afterwards, a routine eye examination once a year is extremely important for early diagnosis and treatment.

Although there is no definitive scientific evidence, it is thought that looking at close distances for a long time increases the tendency to myopia. In addition, prolonged exposure to screen light can trigger eye redness and dryness.

There are many different types of strabismus and treatment methods vary depending on the type of strabismus. However, in strabismus that requires surgical treatment, the earlier the surgery is performed, the higher the functional success.

The eye’s near vision capacity begins to gradually decrease after the age of 40. The need for near vision glasses depends entirely on the person’s age and using or not using glasses does not cause deterioration in near vision capacity.

The aim in using glasses is to provide clear vision. Using, not using glasses does not cause a change in eye prescription. Glasses used to treat lazy eye or strabismus in children are an exception; not using glasses in children may result in worsening of lazy eye or strabismus.
